The land-grant research university in Oktibbeha County has appointed R. Hart Bailey as its first University Ombudsman. Practicing to IOA standards, Bailey will serve about 6,000 faculty and staff at four campuses around the state. The office was established pursuant to a charter in fall 2014 and its website went live just days ago.
Bailey has been on faculty at MSU since 1998. A native Mississippian, he earned a BS and MS from MSU, and a PhD from Texas A&M University. His teaching and research have focused on food safety at the state, national, and international level. He has held a variety of administrative positions including two terms as president of the faculty senate and chair of a the Select Committee on Efficiencies and Innovations. (MSU Ombuds.)
