The VT has named Monique McKay to serve as its Graduate School Ombudsperson. As the Graduate School Ombudsperson, she will serve approximately 7,000 graduate students at the Blacksburg campus and other campuses in the commonwealth. She takes over the office from the founding Ombuds, Ennis McCrery.
McKay has been a mediator in private practice and was the Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Master Mediator Institute and a partner with Business Excellence Solutions. She has experience mediating a range of civil matters and mediated community disputes, juvenile issues, and victim-offender cases. She has worked with Indigenous and Canadian governments and organizations on justice initiatives, education issues, self-government models and policy development related to self-government. She has also been an adjunct professor at the College of William & Mary Law School, where she taught mediation, mediation advocacy and was the Faculty Advisor for the ADR team. Monique has earned a LLM in Dispute Resolution from Pepperdine University, an LLB and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Western Ontario.
