Job Posting: International Monetary Fund

The international financial aid organization has opened its search for its next Ombudsperson. The selected candidate will be expected to take up the position in Washington, D.C. preferably in the beginning of 2016. The Ombudsperson’s term of service is intended to be for a non-renewable seven–year term, with an initial contract for two years. Lois Petzold is the current IMF Ombuds.

Applicants should have substantial professional experience; work similar to that of an Ombuds is particularly valuable. Managerial and international experience are highly desirable, and a legal background would be useful, but is not required. An excellent command of English, the working language of the IMF is required. The Ombudsperson cannot have had any prior employment relationship with the Fund. Organizational Ombuds serve as a confidential, independent, neutral and informal dispute resolution resource for a specific entity. They are accessible to a defined population and can advocate for fairness. These unique characteristics distinguish Organizational Ombuds from Classical Ombuds, mediators, arbitrators, and other alternative dispute resolution professionals.
