University of Utah Health Sciences Names Second Ombuds

Associate Professor Jim Ruble became an Health System Ombudsman for the U of U earlier this month. He joins Michael Cohen, who created the program in early 2015, to serve more than 14,000 faculty and staff.

Ruble became a faculty member in 2010 after 15 years in pharmacy practice and 4 years in legal practice. He is a member of the Utah Bar Association and is licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Ruble earned a BS, PharmD, and JD from the University of Utah. Organizational Ombuds

Organizational Ombuds serve as a confidential, independent, neutral and informal dispute resolution resource for a specific entity. They are accessible to a defined population and can advocate for fairness. These unique characteristics distinguish Organizational Ombuds from Classical Ombuds, mediators, arbitrators, and other alternative dispute resolution professionals. The term "Ombuds" is shorthand for "Ombudsman," "Ombudsperson" and "Ombuds Officer," which also are used widely.
