Journal Article on Role of Scientific Ombuds

The latest issue of the German language journal Personal in Hochschule und Wissenschaft entwickeln (Developing Personnel in Higher Education and Science) includes an article about the work of Scientific Ombuds: "Die Verflechtung von Ombudswesen, Organisationskultur und Personalentwicklung" (Strengthening Ombudsman Work: The Interrelationship of Ombudsman Services, Organizational Culture, and Human Resources Development). The authors are Hjördis Czesnick, Head of the head of Office of the Ombuds Committee for Research Integrity in Germany, and Katrin Frisch, Scientific Officer in the same office.

The article provides an overview of the importance of Ombuds services for universities, with an emphasis on how Ombuds support academic integrity. The article also examines which measures and structures universities can use to support the work of Ombuds. Here is the full summary (translated from German):
High expectations are placed on ombudspersons in academia with regard to addressing scientific misconduct. At the same time, they have long led a shadowy existence, and many university members are unfamiliar with their work. This article introduces the importance of the ombudsperson system. It shows how ombudspersons support universities at numerous levels, for example, in organizational development, and how, conversely, institutions can contribute to the professionalization of ombudsperson work, because ombudspersons also need support.
