IOA Announces 2025 Distinguished Emeriti

This week, the International Ombuds Association recognized three retired members as Distinguished Emeriti. The award comes from peer nominations and is given only to retired Ombuds with a record of significant service.

This year the honor was given to:

Roy Baroff, CO-OP, former Ombuds with North Carolina State University (and currently with MWI and the McCammon Group);
Bruce J. MacAllister, former Ombuds with Los Alamos National Laboratory, University of Oregon, and the International Foundation for Online Responsibility; and
Mary Chavez Rudolf, former Ombuds with University of Colorado Denver, University of Colorado Boulder, the U.S. Department of the Interior.

Organizational Ombuds

Organizational Ombuds serve as a confidential, independent, neutral and informal dispute resolution resource for a specific entity. They are accessible to a defined population and can advocate for fairness. These unique characteristics distinguish Organizational Ombuds from Classical Ombuds, mediators, arbitrators, and other alternative dispute resolution professionals. The term "Ombuds" is shorthand for "Ombudsman," "Ombudsperson" and "Ombuds Officer," which also are used widely.
