Call for Presenters: USOA 2025 Conference in Colorado

The United States Ombudsman Association is seeking speakers for its 44th annual conference set for October 22-24, in Vail, Colorado. Speakers should be interested in sharing their knowledge and experience relevant to the Public Sector Ombudsman profession and USOA membership is not required.


Organizers provided the following ideas for presentation proposals:
  • Understanding the role ombuds play in promoting and advancing systemic change
  • Case/workload management
  • Addressing individual complaints vs systemic issues
  • Improving inclusion in various practice areas and within the ombudsman profession
  • Investigation and complaint resolutions for small offices with broad jurisdiction and limited staffing
  • Early resolution strategies and communication
  • Ombuds writing, formal and informal reports and findings
  • Secondary trauma in ombuds work
  • Elevating intersectionality and lived experience
  • Policy reform
  • Public speaking and working with the media
  • How to investigate, present findings and develop recommendations around systemic and institutional bias
  • Clear communication and plain language
  • Compassion fatigue and boundaries
  • Strategic and fiscal planning
  • Utilizing data and trend analysis
  • Data management and reporting
