Tim Griffin, who has served as the NIU Ombudsman for 21 years, will retire this summer. Griffin said his retirement came as he is, “maxed out in the retirement system,” and seeking something new. “I’m at a point in life where I want to accomplish other things while I still have the strength to accomplish them,” he told the campus newspaper. (Northern Star.)
Griffin established and hosted the Summer Academic Ombuds Meeting for nine years. He authored several articles about the Ombuds field and helped train many of the University Ombuds practicing today. His tenure at NIU was punctuated by a campus shooting on February 14, 2008 that occurred just outside his office and he spoke about that experience at the 2009 IOA conference.
