International Ombudsman Association Seeks Proposals for Professional Development Programming

IOA is soliciting proposals for a "replicable core course which will introduce ombuds professionals to conflict theory" -- a new two-day course to be offered for the first time in April 2017.  The solicitation is part of a large plan to develop a set of standardized core courses that can be offered repeatedly and by a variety of trainers.

Course Title
Conflict: Theory and Applications for the Organizational Ombudsperson

Course Length
2 Days - 16 Hour Course

Course Content
This practical and interactive course provides organizational ombudsmen an introduction to conflict theory with a focus on both individual disputes and systemic conflict. Participants will develop an understanding of conflict theory together with skills and strategies for working with individuals and groups.

Intended Audience
Participants will be required to complete Foundations of Organizational Ombudsman Practice as a prerequisite to participating in this course. Participants may have a limited understanding of conflict.

Proposal Submission Deadline
Submit your proposal by August 31, 2017.

Course Development Timeline

• Developer(s) Selection by September 30, 2017
• Developer(s) Contracted by October 31, 2017
• Course Design Completed by December 31, 2017
• Instructor's Guide Completed by March 31, 2018
• Teach the Core Course in April 2018 (at the IOA Annual Conference)

On another IOA page, it is implied that proposals must come from IOA members, but this is not clear in the RFP. Proposals may be submitted by anyone and are not limited to IOA members. (IOA Core Course RFP.)
