Johns Hopkins University Names First Ombuds for PhD Students and Postdocs

JHU has selected Annalisa Peterson as its first Ombudsperson for PhD students and postdoctoral fellows. A charter agreement signed in September ensures the new program will practice to IOA standards and report to the Vice Provost for Graduate and Professional Education.

Peterson comes to the position with significant experience in ADR and higher education. Most recently, she has been the Associate to the Director, Office of Equal Opportunity & Affirmative Action at the University of Minnesota. She has also been the Program Director for the Duluth Conflict Resolution Center, a Health Care Ombuds/Mediator with Kaiser Permanente in Northern California, and a California State Long-Term Care Ombudsman in Los Angeles. Peterson graduated Dartmouth University and then earned a JD and MDR from Pepperdine Law School. (JHU Ombuds; LinkedIn.)

Congratulations Annalisa and welcome to the wonderful and wacky world of Organizational Ombuds. You graciously welcomed me to Pepperdine so many years ago, when I was exploring a career change. So it's an honor to try to return the favor. Your experience and expertise will be an enormous asset to our field. We are lucky to have you join our ranks.
