Last month, Craig Lair was appointed as the second Gettysburg College Ombuds. He follows Kathryn Rhett, who founded the office in 2020, and serves as a resource for the private liberal arts college's 1,000 faculty and staff on a part-time basis. Lair is also Chairperson and Associate Professor in Sociology. Lair graduated from Arizona State University and earned an MA and PhD at the University of Maryland. According to his faculty bio, his recent research has focused on: "the sociological exploration of advertisements for nannies on Craigslist, and the trend of individuals and businesses hiring companies to write greeting cards on their behalf."(Gettysburg Ombuds; Faculty Bio.)
