Job Posting: UN Development Programme

The United Nations' development aid agency is seeking mediators for its Global Mediation Panel. As part of the Office of the Ombudsman for the UN Funds and Programmes, the external, on-call mediators work with stakeholders from UNDP, UNFPA, UNICEF, UNOPS, and UN Women. Significant collaboration with the Office of the Ombudsman is part of the work. The Office is currently seeking applicants who are nationals or residents, and speak the language of the following countries: Afghanistan; Brazil; Burkina Faso; Burundi; Cameroon; Central African Republic; Chad; China; Colombia; Democratic Republic of Congo; Ethiopia; France; Ghana; Guinea; Iraq; Jordan; Madagascar; Malawi; Mali; Mozambique; Myanmar; Nepal; Niger; Pakistan; Panama; Senegal; Sierra Leone; Somalia; South Sudan; Sudan; Syria; Tanzania; The Caribbean with French required, preference in Haiti; Tunisia; United States; Venezuela; Yemen; and Zimbabwe. Applicants who are based in other countries but have a good understanding of the culture of these countries and speak the required language will be considered.

Applicants must also have a degree in law, conflict management or other relevant social sciences (a Master’s degree in ADR would be an asset); formal training in conflict resolution; and at least five years of proven professional mediation experience (with at least 50 mediation cases). The daily compensation rate typically ranges from $300 to $400. Applications are due by July 15, 2023. (UN Job Net.)
