Job Posting: Springfield College

The private college in Western Massachusetts has significantly revised its search for an inaugural Ombudsperson. The new position will establish a program to serve about 5,000 faculty, staff, and students, following IOA standards. Initially, Springfield sought a part-time Ombuds who would report to the Director of Human Resources. The position is now full-time (for 10 months per year) and reports to the College President.

Applicants must have relevant Master's degree and one to three years of directly related experience, and be CO-OP (or eligible). No salary or closing date indicated. (Springfield Careers; via HigherEdJobs.)

Organizational Ombuds

Organizational Ombuds serve as a confidential, independent, neutral and informal dispute resolution resource for a specific entity. They are accessible to a defined population and can advocate for fairness. These unique characteristics distinguish Organizational Ombuds from Classical Ombuds, mediators, arbitrators, and other alternative dispute resolution professionals. The term "Ombuds" is shorthand for "Ombudsman," "Ombudsperson" and "Ombuds Officer," which also are used widely.
