Kennesaw State's Summer Institute Marks 25 Years, Expands Ombuds Workshops

Kennesaw State University will hold its 25th annual Summer Institute for Professional Development returns as an in-person event this year. Hosted by the KSU Center for Conflict Management, the Summer Institute will include a three-day Ombuds Workshop with five different sessions—the most ever offered. Registration is now open for the event in June.

The metropolitan public research university in Miami will expand its student Ombuds program with the hiring of a Senior Ombudsperson Case Coordinator. The position reports to FIU's Student Ombudsperson, Sofia Trelles, and provides services to 55,000 students. The office practices to IOA standards.

IOA Releases Detailed Agenda for 2022 Virtual Conference

For the second year in a row, the International Ombudsman Association will hold its annual conference virtually. IOA's 17th annual meeting will take place April 4 through 6, 2022. Social events will use Gather.town, a virtual world with video features. Registration has been open for a few weeks and now the detailed agenda has been posted.

Florida International University Names Ombuds

In January, Lauren Christos was appointed next Faculty Ombuds for Florida International. She follows Barbara Bader, who served in the role for five years. Meanwhile, Sofia Trelles, who has been serving as the interim Student Ombudsperson since December 2018, has become the incumbent. Separately, FIU has told students returning to campus after April 4 who have traveled to China, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Italy or Iran, that they must submit a Student Medical Clearance Form to the university Ombudsperson. (FIU Coronavirus FAQ's.)

Florida International University Names Student Ombuds

Sofia Trelles has been appointed the Student Ombudsman for the public university. She succeed Tony Delgado, who created the position, and joins Rebecca Friedman, who has served as FIU's Faculty Ombudsperson for the past few years. Trelles moved into the position after working on special projects as the Senior Executive Assistant to the Vice President of Student Affairs.
