Vincent Vuillemi, the recently appointed Ombuds at the European Organization for Nuclear Research, has started writing a series of articles to better explain his role at the Swiss research laboratory. Vuillemi says that he, "will publish practical examples of situations of potential misunderstanding that could have been resolved by the Ombuds if he had been contacted earlier."
The first article describes a dysfunctional relationship between an employee and supervisor that has become almost irreparable before the Ombuds is consulted. Intriguingly, the scenario is not resolved, nor is the Ombuds' response explained. Instead, it merely illustrates a common situation that could be brought to the Ombuds. The article appears in the latest employee newsletter. (CERN Bulletin.)
