IOA Ombuds Training Returns to Baltimore

The International Ombudsman Association returns to Baltimore to provide several training sessions for new and experienced Ombuds, October 21-25, 2013. The programs include "Foundations of Organizational Ombudsman Practice," "The Next Step for New or Growing Programs," and a specialized course, "Working With Leadership."


  • Foundations of Organizational Ombudsman Practice (formerly Organizational Ombudsman 101), October 21-23
    This 2½-day course that covers the fundamentals of the Organizational Ombuds role. It provides basic information and training for the Organizational Ombudsman by emphasizing the principles of confidentiality, neutrality, independence, and informality.
  • The Next Step for New or Growing Programs (formerly Organizational Ombudsman 101 PLUS), October 24
    Taught by Wendy E. Friede, CO-OP, this course will concentrate on how to communicate the value and benefits of an Ombudsman function internally to management who are considering starting an Ombudsman Office, and from the outside if you are an entrepreneur.  (Foundations of Organizational Ombudsman Practice is a prerequisite.)
  • Specialized Course #1, October 24

  • Working With Leadership, July 20
    Taught by Francine Montemurro, University Ombuds, Boston University, and Kevin Jessar, Director of the Corporate Ombudsman Office, American Red Cross, this one-day specialized course will will focus on the many ways in which Ombuds offices may choose to work effectively with leadership while maintaining the independence, neutrality, and informality of the function.  
    (Foundations of Organizational Ombudsman Practice is a prerequisite.)
