The University of Southern California has hired Katherine Greenwood and Tom Kosakowski as its first University Ombuds. Together, they will serve as co-equals and create an Ombuds program for a campus that has been roiled by a series of high profile scandals in recent years. Greenwood will serve the main university campus and Kosakowski will serve the nearby medical center. According to the job postings, the two new Ombuds will practice to IOA standards and become part of a new administrative center: "Campus Wellness and Crisis Intervention."
Greenwood comes to USC after two and a half years as the Director and Campus Ombudsperson for the University of California Davis. Before that, she was an Ombuds at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Denver. She earned a BA and JD from Tulane University and a PhD from Pacifica Graduate Institute.
Kosakowski has been the Associate Director and Health System Ombuds at cross-town rival, the University of California Los Angeles for the past 12 years. He established the Ombuds Office at Claremont Graduate University and served as the interim Campus Ombuds at UC Riverside. He graduated from Occidental College and earned a JD at Loyola Law School Los Angeles.
