Here is the full announcement posted to the USOA website earlier this week:
April 13, 2020
Dear Colleagues, Friends, Sponsors and Exhibitors;
The 2020 Conference Planning Committee has made the difficult decision to cancel the USOA Annual Conference scheduled for this September in Helena, Montana.
Everyone’s health and safety is our first priority. Even though the conference is still five months away, we believe the large number of unknowns and variables make it impossible to plan and conduct a worthwhile conference this year. We also wanted to make the decision sooner than later in consideration of your schedules and budgets. Please cancel your airline and hotel reservations as soon as possible.
A subset of our 2020 Conference Planning Committee is exploring alternate virtual learning opportunities. If you would like to be a part of that committee, please let me know. We will be announcing more details as our planning progresses.
In the meantime, I would encourage you to take advantage of virtual networking though the USOA members Google Groups and the specialty Chapter Google Groups to stay connected. In these difficult times, it is even more important to stay knowledgeable of the happenings in the ombudsman community and to support each other.
Ombudsmen are premier problem-solvers. The services we offer are needed more than ever in these challenging times. We will get through this together and I am confident we will be stronger as a result.
Please do not hesitate to contact me or other USOA Board members if you have questions. Most importantly, be safe and stay healthy.
Regards,
Kristie Hirschman
