IOA Virtual Course: Mediation Principles and Practice for the Organizational Ombuds

The International Ombuds Association will offer a virtual core course on November 8, 10 and 11, 2022. The three-day course will be taught by Roy Baroff, CO-OP, the former Faculty and Staff Ombuds at North Carolina State University and member of the IOA Board of Directors. The program is intended for experienced practitioners and IOA's Foundations (or equivalent experience) is a pre-requisite.

Here is the course description:
This is a practical skills course. It is designed to provide you with some mediation theory/style information and a lot of practice to enhance your ombuds work. Part of the Ombuds role is to mediate/facilitate difficult conversations within their organizations and this course will boost your skills. In the neutral mediator/facilitator role, an ombuds utilizes a “face to face” process that supports visitors to give voice to their concerns and to better understand those of the other in order to gain clarity and seek positive outcomes. Whether you are new to mediation or an experienced mediator, by learning the fundamentals of mediation in the context of organizational ombuds services you will enhance your ability to support effective conversations and potentially broaden your services.
The course is limited to 30 participants. Developers will be paid a stipend of $4,200 for each course (which can be shared if there are collaborators). Developers will retain the right to adapt and teach the course separately from IOA. Proposals are due by August 26, 2022, and the pilot courses will be offered in early 2023. (IOA RFP: Coaching with EI; Cultural Understandings.)

Update 9/1/22: The RFP deadline has been extended to September 30. (IOA Course Info.)
