Earlier this year, the private women's liberal arts college in Massachusetts selected Kathryn Bender as its new Ombuds. The website for her office was updated this week. Bender succeeds former Wellesley professor Liz Lieberman, who retired after serving as the Ombuds from 2011 to 2018. The appointment of Bender also marked the expansion of the role to include facilitation, mediation and training services.
Bender has had a long career in academia and the law. She has taught at Columbus Law School, Campbell University Law School, and the College of Charleston, School of Business. She has worked as as general counsel for The Catholic University of America, University of North Carolina, and the College of Charleston. She graduated from Meredith College and earned an MA at Columbia University and JD at Suffolk University Law School. (Wellesley Ombuds, News; LinkedIn.)
