WSU has named Cathryn (Cathy) Claussen to the post of Faculty Ombudsman, filling the vacancy left by Ray Jussaume. In accepting the appointment, Claussen withdrew as the newly elected chair of the WSU Faculty Senate for 2011-12. "The decision was a hard one, but I took the ombudsman position because it is a more long term opportunity to help faculty, staff and students,” Claussen said.
Claussen graduated from California Poly Pomona and earned an MA from the University of Iowa and a JD from Georgetown Law School. She is a Professor in the WSU Department of Educational Leadership and Counseling Psychology, and is an authority in sport law. Her research focuses on discrimination and First Amendment issues in sport. She serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Legal Aspects of Sport. (WSU News.)
