Bowdoin College Signs Ombuds Charter

Earlier this week, the President of the private liberal arts college in Brunswick, Maine endorsed a charter for its Ombuds Office. The document defines and protects the program established by Jacqueline M. Reese since her appointment in 2023. The charter adopts IOA standards of practice with no exceptions.

Notably, the charter carefully defines the scope of the population served and includes former employees:
The Ombuds Office is available to all people who have a professional relationship with the College, including but not limited to full-time, part-time, and casual employees, faculty, and volunteers. The office does not serve students, even in their role as student employees. Requests for a meeting with the ombuds will be considered up to six months afer a person’s relationship with the College has concluded.
