The community college in Gainesville, Florida, is seeking an Ombuds and Senior Director, Student Affairs. The search will fill a position previously held by Bea Awoniyi. Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, this full-time leadership role also includes oversight of key student support programs, including the Disabilities Resource Center and Displaced Homemakers. The role includes supervision of staff, budget and grant oversight, and collaboration across campus and community partners.
Applicants must have a relevant master’s degree and four years of experience in a community college or similar setting, or a combination of education and experience totaling ten years, including at least two years of supervisory experience. Preferred qualifications include experience with policy development, budget management, and student counseling or advocacy. ReplyDeleteThe snide comments about salaries may be intended to promote the value of the ombuds role, but they come across as elitist, which is not a good look for the profession. This is a community college in a low cost of living place, where such a salary is quite respectable, especially considering it only requires four years of experience with a masters, not ten. The other qualifications you mention are preferred, not required. We can’t all work at Harvard, nor do we want to.
