FIU, which has previously had an Ombuds for faculty, has recently appointed its first Ombuds for students at its Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. As Ombudsperson, Sheldon H. Cherry provides HWCOM students with, "a highly confidential, independent and informal forum in which to help them to clarify their concerns, identify their goals and consider all of their options in managing or resolving conflicts."
Cherry is a Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He has a national reputation as a clinician in the reproductive and women's health field and has published numerous papers in reproductive medicine. He is the senior editor of "Complications of Pregnancy", a classic medical textbook in its fourth edition. Dr. Cherry is also the author of several lay books on woman's health.
