The private, Jesuit university has named Associate Professor of Sociology, Marcus Kondkar, to serve as its first Faculty Ombuds. The office was established earlier this year by in 2013 by Loyola's President, Kevin Wm. Wildes, on the recommendation of the University Senate, to assist faculty in handling university-related conflicts or complaints.
The office operations are consistent with IOA Standards of Practice.
Kondkar studies intimate partner
homicide and has conducted research on sexual coercion and partner violence among
students at Loyola. He also serves on the
Mayor’s Domestic Violence Advisory Board in New Orleans. He has published his work in the American Journal of Public Health,
Legal Systems of the World, Social Justice, and most recently in The
Sociology of Katrina: Perspectives on a Modern Catastrophe. In January 2009 he received the University Senate Excellence in Teaching Award and he has served as Chair of the Women's Studies Minor.
