International Criminal Court Names First Ombuds

Deniz Ogretir has been selected as the first Ombudsperson for ICC, the intergovernmental organization and international tribunal in The Hague. In this new role, Ogretir will develop an Ombuds program for elected officials (Judges, Prosecutors, and Registrars), staff members, and non-staff personnel.

Ogretir bring significant international Ombuds experience to the position. For the past five years, he has been the Ombuds for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Prior to that he was the Ombudsman for the Middle East, Asia, and the Pacific for the International Committee of the Red Cross. Ogretir graduated from the University of Edinburgh, earned an MS at the University of Manchester, and completed a post-graduate professional diploma in ADR at Universiteit van Amsterdam. (LinkedIn.)
