Ibero-American Network of University Ombuds Gather for Fourth Meeting

In November, 20204, Red Iberoamericana de Defensorías Universitarias (RIdDU) convened for its fourth annual meeting at the Universidad Nacional Federico Villarreal in Lima, Peru. Representatives of 86 member universities from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Spain, Mexico, Panama, Peru, and Portugal gathered to discuss Ombuds work with the theme of “The impact of Artificial Intelligence on Human Rights.”

Participants were welcomed by: Cristina Asunción Alzamora Rivero, the Rector of UNFV; Luis Alberto Matos Zúñiga, University Ombudsman of Villarreal; Rodolfo Jesús Paz Fernández, Dean of the UNFV Faculty; and Dante Jaime Haro Reyes, University Ombudsman of the University of Guadalajara, Mexico, coordinator of RIdDU, and member of ENOHE's International Relations Committee. Organizational Ombuds

Organizational Ombuds serve as a confidential, independent, neutral and informal dispute resolution resource for a specific entity. They are accessible to a defined population and can advocate for fairness. These unique characteristics distinguish Organizational Ombuds from Classical Ombuds, mediators, arbitrators, and other alternative dispute resolution professionals. The term "Ombuds" is shorthand for "Ombudsman," "Ombudsperson" and "Ombuds Officer," which also are used widely.
