Toronto Metropolitan University Chooses New Ombuds

Jessica Shabtai has appointed as new Ombudsperson for Students at TMU. She follows former Acting Ombudsperson, Gemma Kerr (who has moved to Ombudsman Toronto), and joins Assistant Ombuds Jemmy Erhiaganoma and Edmun Natkunarajah. Shabtai will lead and office that serves 48,000 enrolled students, plus applicants and former students, following ACCUO and FCO standards of practice.

Shabtai brings over a decade of experience in advocacy, policy development and leadership within the public sector, primarily with the Government of Nunavut. Most recently, she was the Director of Child and Youth Advocacy Services Director of Child and Youth Advocacy Services in Iqaluit, the capital of Nunavut. She graduated from the University of Waterloo and earned an MSW at the University of Toronto and JD at the University of Saskatchewan. (TMU News; LinkedIn.)
