Lavada Austin is retiring after nearly a decade as the University Ombuds for California State Polytechnic University. The position capped a career as a psychologist in Southern California, including stints at UC Irvine and UC Riverside. Although routinely hailed as an important resource for the large public university, CPP President Soraya Coley said that the Ombuds Office would be discontinued. “We need to seek out the areas that should change or ways that we should think about this position differently, because we are in a COVID environment. What we are focusing on is a goal that supports students, faculty and staff whether it be in conflict resolution or in identifying some concern that they don’t feel comfortable in expressing to a manager or to another administrator,” said Coley.
