Boston University Adds an Associate Ombuds

Lailul Ikram was hired by the Ombuds Office at BU in July 2025, joining University Ombuds, Francine Montemurro, and Senior Associate Ombuds, Erin Wright.

Ikram comes to Boston from Earlham College, where he had served as Ombudsperson, Mediator, Director of Interfaith Initiatives & Adjunct Professor of Business. He also served as a Consultant to the Office of the United Nations Ombudsman and Mediation Services in 2016-17. Ikram graduated from Earlham College and earned a Master of Science in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution at Columbia University. He also just defended his dissertation "Exploring the Influence of Workplace Relationship Conflict on Intention to Leave: The Moderating Role of Organizational Ombuds (or In-House Alternative Dispute Resolution Services) on Staff Retention within the Great Lakes Colleges Association" at Anderson University and earning his Doctorate of Business Administration in Management. Organizational Ombuds

Organizational Ombuds serve as a confidential, independent, neutral and informal dispute resolution resource for a specific entity. They are accessible to a defined population and can advocate for fairness. These unique characteristics distinguish Organizational Ombuds from Classical Ombuds, mediators, arbitrators, and other alternative dispute resolution professionals. The term "Ombuds" is shorthand for "Ombudsman," "Ombudsperson" and "Ombuds Officer," which also are used widely.
