University of North Carolina Announces Interim Ombuds

Josh Canzona, UNC's Associate University Ombuds, will become the Interim University Ombuds upon the departure of Dawn Osborne-Adams in July. Canzona joined the Ombuds Office at Carolina in 2020 after serving as the inaugural Ombuds at the UNC School of the Arts for three years. UNC is expected to open a search for a permanent University Ombuds in the coming months.

Canzona graduated from Loyola University New Orleans, and earned masters degrees from the University of Chicago and Harvard University, and a PhD at Georgetown University. He published an article in the Journal of IOA in 2025. (UNC University News.)

Organizational Ombuds serve as a confidential, independent, neutral and informal dispute resolution resource for a specific entity. They are accessible to a defined population and can advocate for fairness. These unique characteristics distinguish Organizational Ombuds from Classical Ombuds, mediators, arbitrators, and other alternative dispute resolution professionals.
