Michigan State University Appoints Assistant Ombuds

Shannon Lynn Burton has been hired as an Assistant Ombudsperson working with MSU University Ombudsperson, Robert Caldwell. Burton has worked in higher education for 15 years and as an Academic Advising Specialist for over ten years at Michigan State. 


Burton earned three bachelor's degrees from Grand Valley State University in Michigan (BA in Russian Studies, BS in Sociology, and BA in Spanish); an MS in Academic Advising from Kansas State University and an MA in Student Affairs Administration from Michigan State University; and a PhD in Higher, Adult and Lifelong Education with a Specialization in Global Urban Studies from Michigan State University. Burton is an active member of the National Academic Advising Association, the Michigan Academic Advising Association, and Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority.  She has also written several articles on the global and international issues affecting academic advising.
