European Southern Observatory Announces First Ombuds

Camilo Azcarate will be the first Ombuds for the European Organisation for Astronomical Research in the Southern Hemisphere. Azcarate is an experienced Ombuds and most recently served in the role for another intergovernmental organization, the Global Green Growth Institute. He will provide services to about 800 ESO staff, and also contractors and staff from external science institutes. 

ESO is headquartered near Munich, but much of the work takes place at telescope sites in Chile. The appointment is for a non-renewable five years. (LinkedIn.)
