Cal Caucus Seeks Presenters for 2019 Gathering

The California Caucus of College and University Ombuds is soliciting session proposals for its 46th annual conference set for November 10-13, 2019 at the Asolimar Conference Grounds in Pacific Grove. The theme for the caucus is "Reflection: Power, Privilege and Identity in the Ombuds World."

More from the Co-Conveners Marcia Gee Riley (University of California, Berkeley) and Emma Phan (University of Washington):

A recent book club surfaced out of the Cal Caucus Planning Committee to discuss White Fragility by Robin DiAngelo (you can view a Robin DiAngelo talk here). The intent of these gatherings is to continue the dialogue from the 2018 caucus and further engage in some reflective work on the impact of power, privilege, and identity at the individual, visitor, and systemic levels. We invite and encourage you to be inspired by the dialogue and book club discussions and consider how you might build upon or continue the conversation. Whether you participate in book club or not, we invite you to submit proposals that connect to the theme Reflection: Power, Privilege, and Identity in the Ombuds World as you have seen it evolve in your work, at your institution, or in your local area.

We also welcome presentations that consider how the theme intersects with our standards of practice as Ombuds. Presentations could explore the connections between neutrality, impartiality, independence, advocacy for fairness of process, and consider how social justice may be continued or furthered in the Ombuds world.

Organizers are looking to developing a rich program and have set up a dedicated space on their website to provide detailed information about session proposals. They welcome presentations inspired by the theme as well as other topics and ideas for guest speakers. Presenters are offered support and encouragement before and during the conference program and committee members are available to help you develop your session. Proposals must be submitted by Friday, May 17, 2019. (Cal Caucus Submission Info.)
