Administrative Conference of the U.S. Seeks Comments on Federal Ombuds Study

ACUS is accepting public comments before a committee hearing on the draft recommendations on federal Ombuds programs. On October 19, 2016 the ACUS Committee on Rulemaking will review the report by chiResolutions, "A Reappraisal - The Nature and Value of Ombudsmen in Federal Agencies."

To date, comments have been submitted by just two people, Meredith Fuchs, formerly a conference government member from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and Scott Deyo, formerly chair of the Coalition of Federal Ombudsmen. (ACUS Ombuds Project.)

Organizational Ombuds serve as a confidential, independent, neutral and informal dispute resolution resource for a specific entity. They are accessible to a defined population and can advocate for fairness. These unique characteristics distinguish Organizational Ombuds from Classical Ombuds, mediators, arbitrators, and other alternative dispute resolution professionals. The term "Ombuds" is shorthand for "Ombudsman," "Ombudsperson" and "Ombuds Officer," which also are used widely.
