The largest technical university in Italy has opened a Student Ombuds Office. Professor Gerardus Janszen will serve as the Ombuds for the school's 42,000 students. According to a new website for the office,
"The Ombudsman... acts after a non-anonymous (signed) complaint is made; carries out an adequate investigation into the matter and tries to solve it; if no settlement is possible, the Ombudsman will inform, depending on the nature of the problem: the Head of the Study Programme Board; the Dean of the School; the Chairman of the Joint Committee; the Rector; and the student representatives in the Academic Senate." The Student Ombuds will act to protects students against any reprisals and will keep interested parties informed about the outcome of the inquiry.
