Applicants must have, "experience applying techniques of alternative dispute resolution to resolve conflict and foster collaborative relationships between parties, including clarifying issues, concerns, needs, and interests of all parties involved" and the "ability to remain a neutral party to help people resolve disputes." Knowledge of relevant state and federal laws is also required. The selected contractor will work up to 150 days annually (7.5 hours each day), beginning in Fiscal Year 2021. The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is hiring a Contracted IDEA Equitable Services Ombudsperson. The position will mediate and facilitate communication between local school districts and stakeholders, provide technical and targeted assistance to districts and the department (i.e. upward feedback), and consult and collaborate with department offices. Generally, the role is that of an Organizational Ombuds, although there are some ancillary duties that are more formal. Travel throughout the state is required.
