Job Posting: Coastal Carolina University
The public university near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is hiring a Faculty and Staff Ombuds for a part-time, temporary appointment. (Renée Smith has served as the Faculty Ombuds since 2021 and John Dooley was appointed the Staff Ombuds in mid-2022; the Student Ombuds position apparently was discontinued during the pandemic.) The position reports to the President and practices to IOA standards. The desired start date is November 6, 2023

Start date is November 6? They already know who they're hiring.
ReplyDeleteA 6-day search is warning enough but, a start date six days (including two weekend days), allowing three days for screening, interviewing and selection is downright pathetic. I was going to say laughable but there is nothing funny about sham (rigged?) searches.
ReplyDeleteA bunch of well-qualified and experienced ombuds should apply just to make clear the absurdity of this "search."
Band 06 compensation, at full time (which this is not) minimum $45,530; midpoint $64,885; maximum $84,241. Yet another in the proliferation of performative ombuds-ish roles.
