Development Bank of Latin America Hosts UN Ombuds Meeting

Last week, CAF (Corporacion Andina de Fomento – Banco de Desarrollo de América Latina) and its inaugural Ombudsperson, José Martínez-Aragón, hosted the annual UNARIO meeting in Montevideo, Uruguay. UNARIO is the United Nations and Related International Organizations network of Ombuds and Mediators, and about 18 UNARIO members attended in person, with several others joining by video.

CAF Executive Vice President, Carolina España, and CAF country representative, Francoit Borit, formally opened the event and welcomed all guests. Participants included Ombuds and Mediators from UN organizations (UN Funds & Programs, WFP, WHO, UNESCO, FAO and IOM) as well as international financial institutions (WB, IDB, IMF, CAF, IDB, ADB and AIIB). In the course of the meeting, issues addressed included topics such as bridging the intergenerational gap, the relevance of neuroscience, artificial intelligence, retaliation, internal coordination with other staff services, and confidentiality. The next annual meeting will be hosted by the World Bank in September 2024. (LinkedIn.)
