University of Miami Medical School Selects Next Ombuds

JoNell Efantis Potter has been appointed the Ombudsperson for the UM Miller School of Medicine. She follows Helen Bramlett in the role and serves faculty, residents, fellows, medical and graduate students, and staff following IOA standards. Potter heads an office that includes Associate Ombuds, Bridgette M. Nevils-Taylor, and Clinical Ombuds, Steve Falcone.

Potter has been a staff member of the faculty since 1988 and currently is a professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences. Nevils-Taylor was appointed to the Ombuds role in 2024 has worked at the UM School of Medicine since 1995. She was a speaker at the 2025 IOA conference. Falcone joined the faculty 1995 and is a professor of radiology. (UM SOM Ombuds.)

Organizational Ombuds

Organizational Ombuds serve as a confidential, independent, neutral and informal dispute resolution resource for a specific entity. They are accessible to a defined population and can advocate for fairness. These unique characteristics distinguish Organizational Ombuds from Classical Ombuds, mediators, arbitrators, and other alternative dispute resolution professionals.
