The private, 20,000-student research university in Boston has named Donna M. Bishop as its first Ombuds. According to an organizational chart, the University Ombuds reports to the Provost & Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. Additional details about the new program have not been published.
Bishop earned her PhD from the State University of New York at Albany and taught for two decades in the Florida University System. She joined the faculty of the College of Criminal Justice at Northeastern University in 1999. Her research and scholarship focuses on juvenile justice and youth policy, and she is an expert in the consequences of transferring youth to the criminal courts for prosecution and punishment as adults. Bishop has been active in both the Academy of Criminal Justice Science and the American Society of Criminology. She is a former editor of Justice Quarterly and currently serves on the editorial boards of six major journals in criminology and criminal justice. (NU Provost Org Chart, Faculty Bio.)

ReplyDeleteIt is lovely to read of this appointment though it is not in fact the first ombuds at Northeastern.... Lewis Redding might have been the first or maybe there was even someone before him ......
