Washington University in St. Louis Names New Ombuds

Professor Linda Nicholson has been appointed the new Ombuds for faculty on WUSTL's Danforth Campus. She takes over for Susan Appleton, who established the office in 2010. James W. Davis will continue as the Associate Ombuds. “Susan Appleton did a wonderful job as the initial faculty ombuds,” Nicholson said. “I hope to continue the work she did in making the ombuds office a safe and confidential first-stop place for faculty to talk about problems in their work environments and think through possible solutions.”

Nicholson joined the WUSTL faculty in 2000 and is a professor of history in Arts & Sciences, focusing on feminist theory and the history of social identity categories.  She has held a variety of positions within the university and most recently served as director of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.  Nicholson graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and earned her PhD in the History of Ideas from Brandeis University.  (WUSTL News; Faculty Profile.)
