Updated 8/14/25: This post incorrectly identified Canul as the first ASECS Ombuds. In fact, H. Nyree Gray became the inaugural Ombuds in October 2020.

American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies Names First Ombuds
Kathleen Canul has been selected to serve as the Ombuds for ASECS, the academic society for historical humanities research. The society opened a search for an Ombuds in August 2020. Canul is the former Campus Ombuds for UCLA and has also served as the Ombuds for several other professional associations. (ASECS Ombuds.)

Dear Dr Blessing & ASECS Colleagues ~ The information, above, is incorrect, please amend it asap. The “first" ASECS ombuds is not Kathleen Canul, but rather Attorney Nyree Gray, respected & published authority in Civil / Human Rights disputes & negotiations. Her intelligent & successful coordination of my Complaint, exposing astonishing mismanagement of an Irish Stds submission of mine by two ECS editors, is summarized in the Sept 2023 Eighteenth-Century Intelligencer, pp 67-68. For the record, please make this correction at your earliest convenience. Thank you, Dr Mulvihill, ASECS Patron (member: 1982-) / Princeton Research Forum, NJ / Senior Editor, Scriblerian, 2024-2025. ///
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely correct and I even posted about Nyree Gray in 2020. I have revised the post. My apologies. Thank you so much for commenting.
