U.S. Department of State Adds Three Ombuds to Growing Office

The Office of the Ombudsman at the State Department has hired three new Associate Ombuds: Johnny Armijo; Eric Kasik; and Elizabeth Stone, CO-OP. In these new, full-time roles, they will report to the State Department Ombuds, Jeanne Juliao, in Washington, DC, and provide services to State Department employees with workplace conflicts. Two of the new Ombuds bring recent professional experience.

Armijo comes from California State Monterey Bay, where he has served as the inaugural Ombuds since 2023. Prior to that, he established the Ombuds Office at the University of Northern Colorado. He earned his Bachelor's and a Masters in Dispute Resolution and Conflict Management from Southern Methodist University. (LinkedIn.)

Kasik has worked at the State Department since 2011, most recently as an HR Specialist. Prior to that, he was a prosecutor with Army Judge Advocate General's Corps. Kasik graduated from George Washington University and earned an MA at Gonzaga University and JD at Notre Dame. (LinkedIn.)

Stone moves to the position from Gallaudet University, where she has served as the Ombudsperson since 2015. She has over two decades of experience in higher education, nonprofit, and government-affiliated settings. Stone earned her Bachelor’s degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology and her Master’s from American University. (LinkedIn.)
