Job Posting: University of Massachusetts Amherst

The flagship campus of the University of Massachusetts system is hiring an Associate Ombudsperson. The full-time position will report to Colette Carmouche, who was named the University Ombuds in December 2024. The Associate Ombuds will assist in providing services to over 38,000 faculty, staff, and students, practicing to IOA standards.

Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree and five years of experience in conflict resolution, mediation, negotiation, or a related field. (A relevant Master's degree may substitute for two years of experience.) The hiring range for the position (Level 27) is $56,012 to $84,075 per year and applications are due by June 29, 2025.   1. It is nice to see an office growing with real ombuds, instead of outsourced companies at 6 hours per week. It would be positive for Berkeley to withdraw its RFP and replace MWI with an employee ombuds.

    1. My understanding was that MWI was always intended to be a short-term fix for UMass Amherst. At Berkeley: not so much; that campus will probably have MWI as an Staff Ombuds provider for a few years at least.
