Brock University Ombuds Reports on Pivot to Students and 2025 Issues

Sicne being appointed as the Ombuds for Brock, Heather Bellisario has reoriented her office from a campus-wide resource to one focused exclusively on the needs of students. In her first report, Bellisario summarizes the changes and gives an overview of her casework. In the 2024-25 academic year, she handled 456 matters, with the vast majority coming from undergraduate students. In addition, she observed two prominent concerns: the academic misconduct process, and the way in which decisions are communicated to students. Bellisario also made corresponding recommendations. When i was Ombuds for a Mat leave, it was funded by BUSU and was just for students. 2011-2012. I guess, old is new. Great Uni.

Organizational Ombuds

Organizational Ombuds serve as a confidential, independent, neutral and informal dispute resolution resource for a specific entity. They are accessible to a defined population and can advocate for fairness. These unique characteristics distinguish Organizational Ombuds from Classical Ombuds, mediators, arbitrators, and other alternative dispute resolution professionals. The term "Ombuds" is shorthand for "Ombudsman," "Ombudsperson" and "Ombuds Officer," which also are used widely.
