New Service Offers Data Analytics Support for University Ombuds

Isabel Brooke has launched Insight Ombuds Analytics, a niche service that provides data management and reporting support for university Ombuds offices. The venture offers assistance with case tracking, data analysis, and annual reporting, with the goal of reducing administrative burdens and allowing Ombuds to devote more time to assisting visitors.

Brooke developed the service after working as a graduate research assistant in the Office of the Student Ombuds at Georgetown University, where she supported outreach, data analysis, workshop development, strategic planning, and preparation of the office's annual report. She graduated from Ithaca College and earned an MA in Conflict Resolution from Georgetown. According to the website, Insight OA helps offices build user-friendly reporting infrastructure while operating in accordance with IOA confidentiality standards. (Insight OA; LinkedIn.)

Organizational Ombuds

Organizational Ombuds serve as a confidential, independent, neutral and informal dispute resolution resource for a specific entity. They are accessible to a defined population and can advocate for fairness. These unique characteristics distinguish Organizational Ombuds from Classical Ombuds, mediators, arbitrators, and other alternative dispute resolution professionals. The term "Ombuds" is shorthand for "Ombudsman," "Ombudsperson" and "Ombuds Officer," which also are used widely.
