University of the Pacific Appoints Ombuds

Brooke Wichmann, CO-OP has been hired to reestablish the Ombuds Office for the private Methodist-affiliated university in Stockton, California. As the full-time University Ombuds, she will reopen a program that closed in 2022 when the inaugural Ombuds, Hector Escalante Meza, moved to the University of California, Merced. Wichmann will serve about 10,000 faculty, staff, and students across three campuses.

Wichmann brings over 15 years of dispute resolution experience to UoP, including Ombuds stints with the University of Tennessee and Brookhaven National Lab. She is Chair of the IOA Professional Development Committee and hosts a podcast about Ombuds work. Wichmann graduated from the University of West Georgia and earned an MA in Peace Education from the University for Peace. (LinkedIn.)

Organizational Ombuds serve as a confidential, independent, neutral and informal dispute resolution resource for a specific entity. They are accessible to a defined population and can advocate for fairness. These unique characteristics distinguish Organizational Ombuds from Classical Ombuds, mediators, arbitrators, and other alternative dispute resolution professionals.
