Utah Valley University Selects Next Ombuds

In October 2025, Victoria Cruz began as the Assistant Director of Conflict Resolution & Ombuds for the large public university in Orem. She primarily serves a student population of about 37,000 and also works with faculty and staff. (UVU faculty with inter-faculty issues are also served by the Faculty Ombuds, Natalie Grecu.)

Cruz brings a background in student affairs, conflict resolution, and organizational leadership. Before joining UVU, she spent nearly eight years at DSST Public Schools in Colorado, serving in roles including Dean of Students and Director of Campus Operations. Earlier in her career, she held student-facing and leadership positions at Ridgeview Academy and the University of Denver. Cruz graduated from Santa Clara University and earned a Master's at the University of Denver. (LinkedIn.)

Organizational Ombuds serve as a confidential, independent, neutral and informal dispute resolution resource for a specific entity. They are accessible to a defined population and can advocate for fairness. These unique characteristics distinguish Organizational Ombuds from Classical Ombuds, mediators, arbitrators, and other alternative dispute resolution professionals.
