The public school system in Virginia is hiring an Assistant Ombudsman for Special Education for a 10-month contract. The position will report to the Chief Equity Officer and work closely with FCPS's first Family and Student Ombudsman, Armando L. Peri, Jr., who was appointed in June 2018. The Assistant Ombuds will be primarily responsible for supporting parents with special education concerns and processes. According to FCPS, 29 percent of Peri's cases have been related to special education issues.
Applicants must have an advanced degree (equivalent education may be considered) and at least five years of progressively more responsible experience in special education or conflict resolution in a K-12 setting. Knowledge and experience in special education regulations, and practices and state and federal special education laws. public school administration are preferred. The salary for the position ranges from $75,940 to $124,207. Applications are due June 11, 2019. (FCPS Posting.)
Note: When first announced, the district expected the Ombuds to also serve as a Title IX officer. This is no longer part of the FCPS Ombuds office.
